چکیده

We address the problem of automatically generating concise factual questions from linguistically complex sentences in reading materials. We discuss semantic and pragmatic issues that appear in complex sentences, and then we present an algorithm for extracting simplified sentences from appositives, subordinate clauses, and other constructions. We conjecture that our method is useful as a preliminary step in a larger question generation process. Experimental results indicate that our method is more suitable for factual question generation applications than an alternative text compression algorithm.

Signatures of Memory: Brain Coactivations during Retrieval Distinguish Correct from Incorrect Recollection

Are specific distributed coactivations in the brain during memory retrieval a signature of retrieval outcome? Here we show that this is indeed the case. Widespread brain networks were reported to be involved in the retrieval of long-term episodic memories. Although functional coactivation among particular regions occurs during episodic memory retrieval, it is unknown to what extent it contribut...

Boosting Passage Retrieval through Reuse in Question Answering

Question Answering (QA) is an emerging important field in Information Retrieval. In a QA system the archive of previous questions asked from the system makes a collection full of useful factual nuggets. This paper makes an initial attempt to investigate the reuse of facts contained in the archive of previous questions to help and gain performance in answering future related factoid questions. I...

Extracting and Querying Relations in Scientific Papers on Language Technology pdfsubject

We describe methods for extracting interesting factual relations from scientific texts in computational linguistics and language technology taken from the ACL Anthology. We use a hybrid NLP architecture with shallow preprocessing for increased robustness and domainspecific, ontology-based named entity recognition, followed by a deep HPSG parser running the English Resource Grammar (ERG). The ex...

What do Different Beliefs Tell us? An Examination of Factual, Opinion-Based, and Religious Beliefs.

Children and adults differentiate statements of religious belief from statements of fact and opinion, but the basis of that differentiation remains unclear. Across three experiments, adults and 8-10-year-old children heard statements of factual, opinion-based, and religious belief. Adults and children judged that statements of factual belief revealed more about the world, statements of opinion ...

Question Answering over Knowledge Base using Factual Memory Networks

In the task of question answering, Memory Networks have recently shown to be quite effective towards complex reasoning as well as scalability, in spite of limited range of topics covered in training data. In this paper, we introduce Factual Memory Network, which learns to answer questions by extracting and reasoning over relevant facts from a Knowledge Base. Our system generate distributed repr...
